This Lens is to honor one of the most beloved Baptist preachers of the Twentieth-Century, Dr. Vance Havner. He was born in Catawba County near Hickory, NC. He was saved at 10, preached his first sermon at 12, ordained at 15 and preached over 13,000 sermons in his 73 years of preaching. August 12, 1986 he went to be with the Lord, and is still today one of the most quoted preachers in America.
He was an old prophet that was uncompromizing in his walk with God and his Biblically based, Christ centered, God honoring preaching. His writing and preaching style was refreshing, his quotes memorable, and his message always convincing. As a young preacher he was called the Will Rogers of the pulpit, because of his quick wit and humor. Dr. Billy Graham called Vance Havner the most quoted preacher in America, adding that no one has done more to fan the flames of revival than has Vance Havner. I never listen to one of his sermons that I am not convicted, encouraged and challenged to be a better Christian and preacher.
